Bringing Leaders Together
The Academy of Surgery of Detroit was formed in 1920 for the purpose of bringing surgeons from all over the metro Detroit region together in a spirit of collegiality and learning. Our mission has been to bridge the gap between health systems to help surgeons from different backgrounds and disciplines exchange ideas, make new connections and to expand their understanding of different topics that affect our profession. We collaborate frequently with other organizations to support our community and our residents.
The Academy meets three times annually. In the fall, our meeting is held in conjunction with the Detroit Trauma Symposium. We also host a joint meeting in the spring with the Detroit Surgical Association with our resident members. Of note, we held our first Winter Innovation Event on Thursday, February 6, 2020, where physicians and medical innovators came together for an evening of interaction and discovery.
